Icelandic Roots Update

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Lots of exciting news!

  1. We have granted four Snorri Scholarships. The lucky applicants live in Colorado, Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta. Congratulations and best wishes to these young people on their upcoming adventures in Iceland!

  2. The Icelandic Roots Genealogy Database is gaining momentum and adding many people every day. It is so much more than names and dates. It is a very special website to connect Icelanders from all over the world. It is truly unique and incorporating so many fun features. Additionally, we have the added benefit of giving you personal assistance by our volunteer genealogists. We help you find YOUR story. Even if you already have your genealogy, you can have fun and learn more with the many high-tech features.

  1. I had a GREAT tour to Alberta and will be posting some photos of the three Icelandic Clubs and writing a post about this trip soon. Thanks to the members in Edmonton, Markerville, and Calgary. You are all awesome!

  2. Icelandic Roots Genealogists and the Database will be giving a presentation during the 2015 INLofNA Convention in Minnesota. Friday afternoon. If you are attending the convention and want to know how you are related to Madame Vigdís or to anyone else at the convention, send Sunna an email. We will be 'finding our cousins!'

Here is the blurb sent out by the INLofNA and the MN Planning Committee:

Looking for our "Cousins" at the 2015 Convention

The theme of the 2015 INL of NA convention in Minneapolis is Icelandic Connections: The Saga Continues. In keeping with this topic, convention planners would like to assist convention attendees in meeting our frænka and frændi (female and male cousins) and provide the opportunity to visit with them, particularly during the Saturday lunch break.

We will be using the Icelandic Roots Database to discover family connections. On Friday afternoon at the Convention, there will be a specific session hosted by the genealogists of Icelandic Roots. Also, we will be providing an opportunity for ‘Cousins Lunch’ at the Saturday lunch break.

If you would like to be included in this fun project or are attending the Friday Genealogy Session, it is important that you are in the Database. Locating family relationships is super easy with the Relationship Calculator once you are entered. You can see how you are related to Vigdís and other famous Icelanders, as well as to other convention attendees, who are in the database.

Contact Sunna to be included in this fun project or to be included in other 'Cousins Across the Ocean' projects such as when the Snorri West participants come to North America, visiting Icelanders, or where people are searching for their living cousins.
